Hopevillage Wordpress Page
Hi everyone!
This is our first attempt at blogging and we hope to give you weekly updates as to what's happening @ the Hope Village!
Soccer fever is running high all over our country and the excitement in the townships is almost overwhelming! All around people are waving their flags, blowing their vuvuzelas and wearing colourful soccer jerseys. Due to the soccer world cup schools in South Africa will be closing for 5 weeks!! This is a long time and concerns are: children not receiving food and proper care; children hanging around in the streets; children being abused etc... That is why we decided that Amaphelo will NOT close for the school holidays! Instead we will have a fun holiday programme for the kids here... We are really looking forward to this and ask that you will please pray for the protection of our staff and children during this time. A lot of volunteers are coming to help and we are very thankful for their help!
This is a very exciting week for us since the third Hope Village family will be moving in to their home... The third and fourth Hope Village houses were built by 170 volunteers in one week (28 April - 8 May)! John and Emma has 5 children... 3 of them are AIDS-orphans. They are moving out of a very small, cold schack into a great three-bedroom house... with the Soul and Sese family already living there and the fourth family also moving in soon, the atmosphere at the houses promises to be great!
We will keep you updated and excited with lots of photo's!
Meyer and I are visiting a project in Swaziland, called Bulembu this coming weekend. Their vision is much alike ours and we hope to learn from them, as they have been functioning for a few years now with many lives changed through their efforts. We never want to stop learning and improving our service to the township families.
I'll leave you with a quote that Meyer heard at the Mighty Men conference that resonates with what we believe:
"Slaves work for wages, children of God work for an inheritance"...
